Waste Types

Ankur’s gasification technology can be used to transform virtually any type of waste into sustainable energy, thereby reducing landfill and lowering carbon emissions.

Municipal Solid Waste (MSW)

MSW encompasses food waste, paper & cardboard, textiles, leather, garden waste and plastics. Producing non-toxic ash and charcoal, with no harmful solid or liquid emissions. Any gaseous emissions produced can be used to generate power or heat.

Frag Foam or Fluff

This is the name given to frag operators’ waste after everything else has been extracted. While this has traditionally been sent to landfill, gasification now offers a means of turning what was a disposal cost into an energy-generating, cost-saving product.

Tyres

Waste tyres can be converted into a combustible gas for use as sustainable energy, with possible by-products including charcoal and metal wire.

Plastics

However effective the recycling process, a percentage of non-recyclable plastic waste remains, often containing contaminants, which cannot be recycled into plastic pellets for use in manufacturing. This waste can be used as a gasification feedstock, using fixed carbon to assist the process, preventing it from entering the oceans and causing environmental harm. Ankur is currently working with the Environment Agency in the UK to convert plastics containing POP’s (Persistent Organic Pollutants) and antimony tri-oxide into clean electricity and capture the pollutants for subsequent destruction.

Timber

Wood in all its forms can be used, including graded wood and sawdust converted into briquettes. If using timber as feedstock, as with any non-waste, the regulations fall under the ‘medium-sized combustor’ legislation, and waste wood in all its forms falls under IED legislation. As well as generating sufficient energy to run the plant and excess energy to power offices and machinery, high-quality charcoal is produced, suitable for briquettes.

BioMass

(Chicken litter, paper, sewage, etc.)
Poultry litter has traditionally been disposed of by spreading it on the land as fertiliser, sending it to landfill, using it as a potting mix or occasionally feeding it to cattle. Biogas/Biomethanation systems typically generate sludge, but with gasification the sludge is eliminated, volume reduced and sustainable energy generated. Papers and currency notes, duly briquetted, can also be converted into sustainable energy. Any volatile heavy metals present in the dye/ink are removed by the gas condition system, preventing pollution.
